Brake Pad Warning Indicator
Brake Pads are equipped with wear indicators that produce squealing noises or chirping sounds when the brakes are almost worn out. If you are hearing any noise from the wear indicators, then your vehicle's brakes should be replaced as soon as possible.
Determining the Time for Brake Repair or Replacement
Your vehicle's brakes will alert you if they're due for a repair or replacement. Here are some key signals to look for to know for sure if your brakes need to be repaired:
- Squealing or screeching noises coming from the brakes - this could also be due to some rust buildup but if you are hearing noises, it's always better to be safe and get your car's brakes checked
- Indicator light comes on - some vehicles have a low-pad warning system that will trigger the indicator light if the brake pads are worn out
- Deep metallic grinding and growling - this could be a sign of a bigger issue other than just worn out brake pads so it's best to get your brakes checked by an expert
- Less than a quarter inch of brake pad - you can inspect the brake pads by looking through the wheel spokes. If the brake pad is less than a quarter inch thick (about 3 millimeters), then it probably needs to be replaced.
